| Syptoms: The network test that is performed on the Network status screen for the Network Address Translation (NAT) address shows a status of OPEN, MODERATE, or STRICT. If the status is OPEN, you have optimal settings for Xbox Live connectivity.
If the status is MODERATE or a STRICT, you may experience the following issues:
* You cannot join certain game sessions. * When you are playing a game with other people on Xbox Live, you may be unable to hear what they are saying.
Cause: These issues may occur for several reasons. These reasons include but are not limited to the following:
* You have connected to Xbox Live by using an incompatible device. * The device that you used to connect is compatible. However, your device has unsupported firmware.
Note You may experience the symptoms with the Network Status set to OPEN when you play against another user who has their Network Status set to MODERTE or to STRICT NAT. The host of the game will have to resolve the NAT issues accordingly.
Fix: Before you follow these steps, make sure that you power cycle all the devices on the network.
1. Test your connection to Xbox Live. Note You will not receive a result for this test if you cannot sign in to Xbox Live. 2. If your router or gateway is using a moderate or strict NAT, replace it with an Xbox Live-compatible device. 3. To make sure that you have a compatible device and supported firmware 4. Open these ports on your router, _____________________________________________________________________________ Step 1 Set up your Xbox with static IP address. For example: IP Address: 10.1.1.2 Subnet Mask: 255.0.0.0 Default Gateway: 10.1.1.1 (your router's LAN address) Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2 (or whichever your ISP is using) Secondary DNS: 202.129.64.198 (or whichever your ISP is using)
Step 2 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of the router (10.1.1.1). Enter user name (admin) and your password (admin).
Step 3 Add LAN Client (Xbox) into the router before you can open any ports. Go to Advanced > LAN Clients. Type in the IP address of the Xbox (e.g. 10.1.1.2). You can specify the name of this workstation under Host Name (e.g. Xbox). Click Add and then Apply.
Step 4 Go to Advanced > Virtual Server.
Step 5 Select the 'User' Category and click on Add button below.
Step 6 Enter the name for this entry under Rule Name (e.g. XboxLive). Then select the necessary protocol (TCP or UDP). Specify the necessary port number in all fields including the Port Map. You will need to enter the following ports: UDP 88 UDP 3074 TCP 3074
Click Apply when done.
Step 7. Go to Advanced > Virtual Server and under LAN IP select your LAN Client (which we added in Step 3). Select 'User' Category and you should see the rule which you have created in Step 6. Select it and then click on Add > to move it to Applied Rules section. Click Apply.
Step 8 To save the new settings into the router's memory go to Tools > (System) > Save & Reboot. Click on Save & Reboot button. The router will save the settings and restart.

| Nice post, also in Halo 3, in customs the person whom signed in fastest is give host, signed in as in logged onto Halo 3 servers fastest, I on a T3 internet stole host from Fiber Opticts. In matchmaking, foreigners always get host.
You can still bridge host, and without a ban, just don't abuse your host abilitys with standbying or having a bad net connection.
